- HCMC hit by severe heatwave, temperatures reach 37 degrees Celsius
- Heatwave forecast to hit southern Vietnam
HCMC – A severe heatwave is intensifying across Vietnam, with temperatures in the capital city of Hanoi potentially peaking at 39 degrees Celsius on April 6 and 7, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
The northwest, the region from Thanh Hoa Province to Danang City, and the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will face intense heat. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels will drop to a low of 40% to 45%.
In the Red River Delta, temperatures on April 6 are expected to stay between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius. However, data models from the Global Forecast System (GFS) suggest a more extreme scenario for Hanoi, with potential peaks reaching 37 to 39 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the official forecast of 35 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the north of the Central Highlands and the east of southern Vietnam will see highs of 35 to 36 degrees Celsius.
This intensification follows a day of widespread elevated temperatures on April 5, where numerous weather stations recorded peaks between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius. Key hotspots included Yen Chau in Son La Province at 38.9 degrees Celsius and Tuyen Hoa in Quang Tri Province and Son Hoa in Dak Lak Province, both reaching 39 degrees Celsius.
