HCMC – Strong winds struck Ba Chuc Commune in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Wednesday morning, damaging 19 houses and a local health center.
The winds swept through the commune at around 7:10 a.m. on July 23, severely damaging property in An Thanh, Trung An, and Soc Tuc hamlets. Soc Tuc was the hardest hit with 12 houses damaged, followed by Trung An with four and An Thanh with two.
The Ba Chuc Commune Health Center also sustained damage. No casualties were reported, but many households suffered significant property losses. The total value of the damage has not yet been determined.
Local authorities have mobilized police and military forces to support clean-up and recovery efforts.
Each affected household received VND1 million in emergency aid from the Ba Chuc Commune People’s Committee. The Vietnam Fatherland Front’s local chapter also distributed essential supplies to families in need.
Pham Minh Hien, secretary of the Ba Chuc Commune Party Committee and chairman of the local People’s Council, said efforts are underway to provide further support, especially for low-income families. The commune is currently working on a plan to finance home repairs and has requested emergency assistance from provincial authorities.
The incident follows a series of recent weather-related disasters across Vietnam. On July 22, thunderstorms swept through neighboring Dong Thap Province, damaging 286 houses and injuring 17 people. In the central province of Nghe An, heavy rains triggered by the circulation of Storm Wipha caused severe flooding, submerging homes, isolating villages, and forcing hundreds to evacuate.
