HCMC – Construction has started on a 60.9-kilometer section of the Ninh Binh–Haiphong Expressway passing through Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held today, May 12, in Thai Binh Province, and attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The section is being developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) at a total cost of nearly VND20 trillion, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
The Ninh Binh–Haiphong Expressway is 117 kilometers long, linking northern coastal provinces and forming a key transport corridor connecting the southern Red River Delta and north-central Vietnam with major transport hubs such as Lach Huyen Port, Cat Bi and Van Don airports, international seaports, and border gates.
The Nam Dinh–Thai Binh section, comprising 27.6 kilometers in Nam Dinh Province and 33.3 kilometers in Thai Binh Province, is the first expressway project authorized by the central Government for implementation by Thai Binh Province.
The expressway will feature four lanes with a speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour. Construction began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027, with operations starting in 2028. The project is being developed by a consortium led by Geleximco Group.
At the event, the prime minister urged relevant provinces, including Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, and Haiphong, to coordinate to ensure efficient utilization of the expressway. He requested that construction be expedited and completed at least six months ahead of schedule, by 2026.
