HCMC – Vingroup’s proposed 49-kilometer metro line connecting District 7 and Can Gio District is being fast-tracked, with construction expected to begin early next year.

Tran Quang Lam, acting director of HCMC’s Department of Construction, said at a June 3 meeting that Vingroup has proposed developing the urban rail line under a public-private partnership (PPP) and has been tasked with preparing a project proposal.

“The company is expediting the process, and if all procedures are completed soon, construction could start in early 2026,” Lam said.

In early May 2025, the HCMC government approved Vingroup’s plan to study and draft a project proposal, with the company funding the work independently of the city’s budget.

The city has requested Vingroup to ensure the file meets all regulatory requirements in terms of quality, content, and components, and to complete and submit it to the relevant authorities within 12 months from the date of approval.

The District 7-Can Gio metro line will start from Nguyen Van Linh Parkway, pass through Nguyen Luong Bang Street and Rung Sac Road, and end at a 39-hectare site adjacent to the Vinhomes Green Paradise residential and recreational development project.

The metro line, with an estimated investment of around US$4 billion, will have double tracks with a 1,435 mm standard gauge, and featuring a maximum design speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
