HCMC – Work began today, August 19, on the second phase of the Dong Dang–Tra Linh Expressway, a key transport project in the northern border region.

The second phase will expand the 93-kilometer section built in phase one and add 28 kilometers to the Tra Linh Border Gate in Cao Bang Province. The project is carried out under a public-private partnership with a build-operate-transfer contract and is estimated to cost over VND11.2 trillion. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The two-phase expressway will run 121 kilometers and require a total of nearly VND23 trillion. Phase one began in January 2024 and is expected to opened to traffic by December 2025.

Authorities said the road will improve connectivity in Cao Bang, one of Vietnam’s poorest provinces, and link with other expressways to form a trade route from Vietnam to China and Europe.
