HCMC – Workers in Vietnam will have seven days off for the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and the April 30–May 1 holidays in 2026, as the breaks fall near weekends and include compensatory leave.

The Hung Kings’ death anniversary in 2026 falls on Sunday, April 26. As it coincides with a weekend, employees will be given a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27, resulting in a three-day break from Saturday, April 25, to Monday, April 27.

Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) fall on Thursday and Friday. For employees who do not work on Saturdays, the holiday will last four consecutive days from April 30 to May 3, including the weekend.

The two holiday periods are separated by two working days, Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Following the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday, public officials, civil servants and employees will next observe the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, Reunification Day, International Labor Day and National Day (September 2).

Under the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to fully paid leave on public holidays and Tet. The annual holidays include one day for New Year’s Day, five days for Lunar New Year, one day for Reunification Day, one day for International Labor Day, two days for National Day and one day for Hung Kings’ death anniversary (the 10th day of the third lunar month).

Foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to an additional day off for their traditional New Year and one day for their country’s National Day.

Article 98 of the 2019 Labor Code stipulates that employees working during public holidays and Tet in the daytime are entitled to compensation of at least 300%, excluding the normal daily pay for employees.
