HCMC – Three teachers and 34 students of Bim Son Town in Thanh Hoa Province have tested positive for Covid-19, leading to all schools with 15,000 students in the town shutting down to prevent the spread of the disease.

Mai The Tri, vice chairman of Bim Son Town, said today, October 19, that all K-12 schools in eight wards and communes in the town had suspended in-person classes due to the new Covid cases.

The 34 infected students comprise four kindergarteners, 22 primary-school students, one secondary-school student and seven high-school ones.

Some 2,800 people have been found to come into close contact with these positive cases, while over 3,900 others have had indirect contact, said Tri.

The town is planning to organize online classes for the time being, the local media reported.

Bim Son Town is working with the education and training authorities to install online learning software for the eight wards and communes to ensure the effectiveness of learning and teaching during this period.

The coronavirus infection cluster in Bim Son Town was discovered on October 14. As of October 18, the town had reported 86 cases.

Since the ongoing fourth wave of Covid-19 began in late April, Thanh Hoa Province has confirmed over 600 cases.
