Nha Be District chairman is now Thu Duc City chairman

HCMC – Hoang Tung, 41, chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC’s outlying district of Nha Be, has been elected as chairman of the People’s Committee of Thu Duc City.

On January 22, the Thu Duc People’s Council held its first meeting to elect the chairperson, vice chairpersons and head of the committees of the council and chairperson, vice chairpersons and members of the Thu Duc People’s Committee, the local media reported.

Tung, born in the central province of Quang Ngai, was head of the HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture’s technical infrastructure management division and director of the department from March 2017 before holding the post of Nha Be chairman from October 2019.

The Thu Duc People’s Council also elected Nguyen Bach Hoang Phung, vice chair of District 2; Nguyen Ky Phung, deputy director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology and Nguyen Huu Anh Tu, vice chairman of Thu Duc District, as vice chairpersons of Thu Duc City.

In addition, Nguyen Phuoc Hung, secretary of the District 2 Party Committee, was named chairman of the Thu Duc People’s Council and Thai My Dien, vice chairwoman of the Thu Duc District People’s Council, became vice chairwoman of the Thu Duc City People’s Council.

Earlier, the HCMC government had merged the divisions of civil judgment enforcement of districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc to the Thu Duc divisions of civil judgment enforcement. The Supreme People’s Court had also appointed the chief judge and deputy chief judges of the Thu Duc People’s Court.

At a press briefing on January 22, HCMC Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan said the vice chairpersons of Thu Duc City will be in charge of sectors and areas, with District 2 being area No. 1; District 9, area No. 2 and Thu Duc District, area No.3.

The State apparatus of Thu Duc City will have 657 people and the number would be cut to 459 people be 2025.

Thu Duc City was established under the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Resolution 1111 which came into force on January 1, 2021, by merging districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc. The city has an area of some 211 square kilometers and a population of one million people.

The establishment of Thu Duc City will help downsize the State apparatus of HCMC and contribute to the city’s socioeconomic development as it is expected to contribute 30% of HCMC’s gross regional domestic product or 7% of the country’s gross domestic product. It is aimed at becoming a driving force for the growth of the city and the southern key economic zone as a whole.

The headquarters of the District 2 government at 168 Truong Van Bang, Thanh My Loi Ward, was planned as the headquarters of the Thu Duc People’s Committee and Council. Meanwhile, the District 9 government’s headquarters at 2/304 Hanoi Highway, Hiep Phu Ward, will be the headquarters of the Thu Duc City Party Committee.

The Thu Duc District government’s headquarters at 43 Nguyen Van Ba Street will be the headquarters of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and other agencies of Thu Duc City.
