Farewell, with our heartfelt thank‑you

The Saigon Times

Must read

Dear valued readers,

For more than three decades, the Saigon Times has accompanied Vietnam’s Doi Moi era, documenting the milestones, challenges and profound transformation of the nation’s economy.

For many readers, this is a moment to bid farewell to a trusted voice in business journalism. For those who have been part of this newsroom, it is also an opportunity to look back with pride on a remarkable journey.

At this moment, we express our deepest gratitude to our readers, the business community, experts, contributors, partners, advertisers, government agencies, and all organizations and individuals who have accompanied The Saigon Times throughout its journey.

To us, you have always been the reason this publication has existed and grown. Your trust and candid feedback have been our greatest motivation and what we value most.

Established in HCMC, the country’s economic hub, during the early years of the Doi Moi era, the Saigon Times has remained steadfast in the mission it set out from the beginning: to provide truthful, objective, and useful economic information; to reflect developments in the macroeconomy and the evolving landscape of business, trade, investment, and international economic relations; to support the country’s reform agenda and global integration; and, above all, to serve the public interest.

From the early years of Vietnam’s transition to a market economy, the Saigon Times served as a forum for ideas, policy discussions and initiatives aimed at advancing reform, improving the investment and business environment, promoting international economic integration and fostering enterprise development. It brought together policymakers, experts, researchers and business leaders, providing a platform where many of the country’s most important economic issues were analyzed and debated in a constructive spirit. Among the achievements we are most proud of is having witnessed, and in some way accompanied, the growth and maturation of Vietnam’s business community throughout the Doi Moi era.

Over more than three decades of growth, we have remained committed to the highest standards of journalism, guided by fairness, respect for the truth, and a deep sense of responsibility to society. These principles have formed the foundation of the Saigon Times’ identity. Above all, they were nurtured by the dedication and vision of our founders and generations of leaders, reporters, editors, and staff. Through their commitment and tireless efforts, they helped build our readers’ trust while fostering a journalistic spirit and professionalism that have been passed down through generations.

Alongside them stood nearly 9,000 contributors from Vietnam and elsewhere in the world, including economists, researchers, academics, lawyers, executives, entrepreneurs, journalists, and public intellectuals across a wide range of fields. They brought expertise, experience, and diverse perspectives, enriching our pages and deepening the analysis of the economic and social issues shaping the nation.

The Saigon Times, The Saigon Times Weekly and their three sister publications – Kinh te Sai Gon (Vietnamese weekly magazine), Kinh te Sai Gon Online (electronic news website) and Saigon Tiep thi (electronic news website), will stop publishing as from June 30, 2026 under HCMC’s just-approved press system restructuring plan.

Thank you to all who have accompanied us over the past 35 years.

Farewell to The Saigon Times, The Saigon Times Weekly, Kinh te Sai Gon, Kinh te Sai Gon Online and Saigon Tiep thi, but not to the values that generations of journalists and staff have worked tirelessly to build and uphold.

The Editorial Board and Staff of The Saigon Times.
