HCMC – The northern port city of Haiphong on May 13 started work on the Ben Rung bridge project, which will span the Da Bac River and link Haiphong with the neighboring province of Quang Ninh.

The bridge will have a total length of 1,865.3 meters, with the main bridge measuring 21.5 meters in width. Its investor is the Haiphong management board for investment and development of traffic projects.

The project costs over VND1.94 trillion, with VND1.1 trillion coming from the central budget, VND835 billion from Haiphong, and VND5.5 billion from Quang Ninh. The project is expected to be complete in two years’ time.

Quang Ninh has approved a plan to build a road leading to the Ben Rung bridge section in its precinct, at an estimated cost of VND258 billion, sourced from the provincial budget.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Nguyen Van Tung, chairman of the Haiphong City government, said the cooperation between the two localities to build the bridge is aimed at boosting regional connectivity, meeting the rising travel demand, and contributing to regional socioeconomic growth.
