HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 1,594 fresh cases of Covid today, May 15, falling by 301 cases against the previous day.
The capital city of Hanoi continued to see the biggest case number at 461, followed by Quang Ninh with just 88 cases. Nghe An and Yen Bai had 80 cases each. Other localities reported fewer than 75 cases each, including HCMC with 25 cases.
No new Covid deaths were recorded today. Nearly 5,450 Covid patients were declared free of the disease in the day, raising the country’s total recoveries to more than 9.5 million.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam urged the Health Ministry to report its activities in using donated or purchased Covid vaccines for children aged 5 to 11.
The Deputy PM said in a statement on May 13 that the vaccination for children in this age group was slower than expected. Accordingly, the ministry was told to step up the vaccination campaign for children, taking into account recommendations of WHO and international experience, and report the progress to the prime minister.
Vietnam launched its vaccination drive for children aged above five on April 14, with children of a junior high school in Quang Ninh Province receiving the first doses. After that, other localities have rolled out their vaccinations for this group of children.
In early April, the Government leader asked the Health Ministry to complete vaccinating children in this age group by the second quarter of the year. However, by the middle of this month, only 2.1 million out of over 10 million children in this group had been inoculated, reported news site VnExpress.
