HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 1,344 fresh Covid infections today, May 25, inching up 22 against yesterday.
Hanoi still took the lead in new cases with 316, followed by Vinh Phuc with 94 and Bac Ninh with 90. The rest were detected in 43 other cities and provinces.
Some 2,500 Covid patients were declared free of the disease today, while two Covid deaths were reported in Tay Ninh and Tra Vinh.
The ministry has urged cities and provinces to expedite Covid vaccinations as the number of doses received by the ministry is enough for the rollout of the booster shots for adults.
However, several provinces and cities have refused to receive Covid vaccine doses, which may undermine the vaccination target set by the prime minister, according to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
As such, the ministry asked the provinces and cities to quickly review the list of people who are eligible, but have yet to get a booster shot and complete the administration of the third dose in the second quarter of 2022.
Localities which deny the allocation of Covid vaccine doses for their booster drive and for the inoculation of children will bear full responsibility if Covid breaks out again there, the local media reported, citing the Ministry of Health.
As of May 21, the country had administered over 219 million doses of Covid vaccines nationwide.
