HCMC – The local stock market closed in positive territory with the VN-Index of the HCMC market again hitting its new record on May 26, thanks to the major contribution of bank stocks.
With 166 winners and 244 losers, the benchmark index added 8.12 points, or 0.62% against the previous session at 1,316.7, marking the sixth consecutive winning session.
Turnover of the HCMC market made headway as volume improved 5% and value rose 2% at 723 million shares and more than VND21.6 trillion. Of the total value, shares traded in put-through transactions accounted for some VND1.2 trillion.
Many bank stocks were cash magnets. EIB soared 6.9% to its ceiling price of VND28,650. SSB also rose 6.7%, while LPB expanded 6.3% to its intraday high with over 27 million shares traded. Also, VCB, CTG, TCB, VPB, MBB and many others were good performers, with VPB leading the southern bourse by liquidity with 35.2 million shares transacted.
Other bluechip stocks made gains, except for property company VIC, gas firm GAS, real estate developer NVL. The winners included brewery firm SAB, housing developer VHM, and steelmaker HPG.
Regarding speculative stocks, construction firm ROS ended lower by 2.9% and came fourth by liquidity on the bourse, with 28.6 million shares changing hands. Property developer FLC extended losses as it contracted 2.9% to its intraday low. Further, HQC, ITA, HAI, LDG, DLG closed in the red.
On the northern bourse, the support of bank stocks and investment company THD enabled the HNX-Index to gain 3.27 points, or 1.08% versus Tuesday at 304.86, with 72 advancers and 129 decliners.
