PM orders tougher fight against Covid-19

HCMC – As the Covid-19 resurgence is complicated and could cause multiple difficulties and challenges, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh required a higher level of pandemic prevention and control measures.

At a regular Cabinet meeting on June 3, the Government leader said although the pandemic was being controlled, it remained complicated. Therefore, agencies and localities should enhance anti-pandemic measures with the spirit of “fighting the pandemic like fighting an enemy”, combine defensive and offensive measures effectively, apply technologies in the fight against the pandemic and improve policies on pandemic prevention and control, the local media reported.

Despite Covid-19, the country still achieved a positive socioeconomic performance in May and the first five months of the year, said the prime minister.

Specifically, the election of deputies to the 15th NA and the municipal People’s Council for the 2021-2021 tenure was held successfully. In addition, the macroeconomy was stable and inflation was brought under control, while the industrial production and growth of exports were maintained.

Moreover, foreign investment increased and the social welfare of local residents was ensured.

PM Chinh also pointed out shortcomings. For example, some areas remained heedless and passive in combating the pandemic and the Covid-19 vaccination pace was slow.

He asked ministries, agencies and localities to join forces to control the fourth Covid-19 wave, help the economy recover after the pandemic and ensure the social welfare of residents, especially those hit by the pandemic and those vulnerable.

He also asked agencies to enhance awareness over the current difficulties and challenges and depending on their functions, rights and missions, to keep a close watch on the situation to work out prompt, feasible and effective directions.

The prime minister ordered the removal of obstacles to policies, especially those related to Covid-19 vaccines and public investment. The State budget should be saved to be spent on key projects and disadvantageous areas.

A resolution on policies for laborers and enterprises affected by Covid-19 should be issued at the earliest. In addition, immigration must be controlled closely and illegal immigrants must face heavy sanctions.

He also hailed many localities, such as Hanoi, HCMC, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh as well as the frontline workers for drastically fighting the pandemic.
