HCMC – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Hanoi today, July 5, on a two-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son.

The visit is taking place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, the local media reported.

The two countries established diplomatic ties in 1950 and elevated them to a strategic partnership in 2001, and to a comprehensive strategic partnership 11 years later.

Their bilateral trade reached US$7.1 billion last year, improving over 25% against the 2020 figure. There are 151 projects invested by Russian investors in Vietnam, with total registered capital exceeding US$950 million.

Last year, during his visit to Russia between November 29 and December 2, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin issued a joint statement on the vision of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership by 2030.
