Deloitte Vietnam and mission to create positive values for community

Deloitte, one of the four biggest consulting and auditing firms in the world, has always undertaken a mission to create positive values for the community. With 32 years operating in Vietnam, Deloitte Vietnam’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities have focused on education, improving awareness and skills for adolescents, the underprivileged and the disabled.

Sustained efforts for the needy

On July 2, Deloitte Vietnam accompanied the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training to visit and give gifts to families contributing to the country’s revolution in Danang City.

According to the firm, present peace is thanks to the sacrifice of previous generations. Vietnamese people nowadays always remember and are grateful to those sacrificing their lives and those who are now protecting the country’s sovereignty.

Deloitte Vietnam presented 75 scholarships worth VND150 million to children of war martyrs and families contributing to the country’s revolution, giving them motivation and confidence in their future.

The cooperation with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training is part of the WorldClass program, an initiative of Deloitte to create a positive impact on 100 million people worldwide until 2030 through education and skill training, including 575,000 people in Vietnam, especially those aged between 15 and 25 and the disadvantaged. 2022 is the fourth year the initiative has been conducted in Vietnam.

As vocational training courses have become indispensable to ensure the sustainable manpower, Deloitte Vietnam expects to inspire the youth to participate in vocational training courses and keep up their careers that do not require a university degree.

On September 24 last year, Deloitte Vietnam coordinated with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Vietnam to hold an online ceremony to award scholarships under the Lighting Up Your Future (LUYF) program. The program helped students pursue their career dreams and enhanced the confidence, inspiration and positive values among them.

Initiated by Deloitte Vietnam and ACCA Vietnam in 2012, the LUYF scholarship fund is aimed at supporting disadvantaged students who want to have a brighter future and contribute to society.

In the ninth LUYF program, 160 students, including many ethnic minority and disabled ones, were chosen to receive the scholarships worth VND4 billion.

The fund initially supported finance, banking, accounting and auditing students only. Since the eighth LUYF program, its coverage has been expanded to students proactively participating in social activities or nurturing startup projects heading towards the community.

Ha Thu Thanh, chairwoman of Deloitte Vietnam and chairwoman of the LUYF fund, said the fund had been spreading humane values and the determination of realizing dreams to the next generations of students.

Besides cash and university tuition fees, LUYF facilitates students to access free skill improvement programs and training courses held by Deloitte, ACCA and partners.

On October 27, 2020, Deloitte Vietnam and Tien Phong Plastic JSC launched the Blue Kite Foundation with two aims: joining forces with border guards to support ethnic minority children in northern mountainous provinces, and supporting a program to improve nursing services at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital in the 2020-2022 period.

Through the foundation, Deloitte Vietnam expected to make life better for children in upland areas and help child patients receive professional and loving care services.

The foundation helps nurses at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital improve their ability and attitude to child patients and their caretakers.

Tran Minh Dien, a representative of the hospital, said the hospital admitted more than one million child patients per year. The companion of Deloitte Vietnam and Tien Phong Plastic was the motivation and encouragement for the hospital’s staff.

Deloitte Vietnam Chairwoman Thanh said through the Blue Kite Foundation, Deloitte could continue its journey to bring positive values to future generations of the country. With two-year action plans, the foundation would directly and indirectly support millions of child patients per year through healthcare and education systems.

According to Deloitte, all children deserve happiness, health and development to realize their dreams.

A companion in the battle against Covid-19

During the pandemic, Deloitte Vietnam has joined hands to fulfill its roles, missions and commitments to the community. The company made donations in cash and in kind to hotspot areas, frontline hospitals, medical workers and residents, especially the poor, women and the underprivileged. The firm also contributed VND575 million to the Covid-19 vaccine fund.

Deloitte also handed over Covid test kits and a donation worth VND300 million to Military Hospital 175 in HCMC.

Following programs to give the community a leg up over the pandemic, Deloitte gave gift sets valued at VND200 million to doctors and nurses suffering from fatal diseases and poor families participating in the anti-pandemic fight.

Furthermore, the company presented 1,000 servings costing VND60 million to frontline medical workers, VND400 million to zero-dong minimarts in Hanoi and HCMC, and gift sets worth VND120 million to students of medical schools taking part in the anti-pandemic fight.

Multiple activities to support women have been also held, such as donating VND150 million to women in southern provinces hit by the pandemic, 1,000 gift sets valued at VND100 million to women in Hanoi and VND130 million to women in Tien Giang.

Since 2019, Deloitte Vietnam has spent nearly VND17 billion on social activities.
