HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed an additional 89 Covid-19 cases this afternoon, June 12, with 88 of them locally infected, sending Vietnam’s tally to 10,137 cases to date.
The only imported case was identified as a three-year-old baby who was put in quarantine upon his arrival in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
Among the domestic infections, Bac Giang Province accounted for the majority at 55 cases. HCMC reported 20 cases. Bac Ninh Province recorded 10 cases. Ha Tinh Province had three cases.
The ministry this afternoon also announced another Covid-19 death who was a Hanoian resident. This is the 58th death from the coronavirus in the country.
She had a medical history of lung cancer and received medical treatment at the Tan Trieu Campus of K Hospital in Hanoi. On May 14, the 64-year-old woman underwent a Covid-19 test and the result came out positive.
She was moved into intensive care. However, her health condition became worse as she encountered respiratory failure and was put on a ventilator on May 25. The patient showed poor response to treatment. She died on June 11 due to septic shock, pneumonia caused by Covid-19, and lung cancer.
In related news, an additional 1,800 employees of Pouyuen Vietnam Company in HCMC’s Binh Tan District had to temporarily stay at home starting today, so that the firm and the local competent forces will jointly take measures to combat Covid-19, reported VnExpress.
Cu Phat Nghiep, president of the company’s Labor Union, said that among these employees, 1,300 are living in the district’s An Lac Ward, where an infection cluster linked to the Ehome 3 residential building was detected. Up to now, 21 infections related to this cluster were reported, including one female worker of Pouyuen Vietnam.
Besides this, due to the virus-hit worker, nearly 500 workers on the sixth floor of the firm’s Block C3 had to be away from work, awaiting their testing results.
After reporting the virus-hit worker, Pouyuen Vietnam teamed up with the local health authority to perform tests for 9,200 employees, sent 141 people to concentrated quarantine centers, and asked nearly 500 others to self-quarantine at home. Earlier, the company had allowed some 600 workers to stay at home to facilitate contact tracing.
