HCMC – The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has told major airlines to arrange backup aircraft to deal with flight disruptions amid complaints of delays and cancelations.
Insufficient infrastructure at airports, including runways and stations, has caused flight delays and cancellations, especially at the Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports.
The fact that airlines have yet to design suitable flight schedules and ensure backup aircraft in the event of an incident is also the cause for these disruptions.
To address the challenge, the administration urged airlines to develop a reasonable fleet of aircraft to promptly schedule replacement flights.
They were asked to strictly follow regulations on allocated slots and develop flight plans during the off-peak hours and at night.
At the same time, the administration will strengthen monitoring flights to take back unused slots and allocate them to other airlines.
According to the administrators, the domestic passenger transport volume recovered quickly and exceeded the same period of 2019.
In the first seven months of this year, airlines operated 177,744 flights.
Of them, the number of on-time flights was 153,594, the number of delayed flights was 24,150 and those canceled were 801.
