DANANG – Danang City is set to open new direct air routes to India’s metropolitan regions, New Delhi and Mumbai, and resume an air service to Qatar to lure more Indian and Middle Eastern visitors.

Low-cost carrier Vietjet Air will launch these new air services connecting the city with India, heard a workshop held by the municipal Department of Tourism on September 17.

Apart from the discussion on preparations to welcome travelers from India and the Middle East, the event was aimed at boosting tourism connectivity and diversifying source markets to recover and develop the sustainable tourism industry.

Speaking at the event, Truong Thi Hong Hanh, director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said that the October launch of two direct air routes between Danang City and Mumbai and New Delhi will act as a stimulus for travel between the two countries.

Currently, to visit Danang, Indian tourists must fly to HCMC or Hanoi first and then taken a connecting flight to Danang, or transit in Bangkok, Singapore or Malaysia.

The Doha-Danang air route will be reopened after a temporary closure due to the Covid pandemic, Hanh said, adding that the city’s working delegation will visit some countries in the Middle East to promote the city’s tourism products and services.

The Middle Eastern market is one of the strategic source markets for Danang City’s tourism, according to the representative of the municipal department.

Before the pandemic broke out, Qatar Airways launched the Doha-Danang air service, contributing to bringing visitors from the Middle East to Danang.

The event was attended by Subhash P. Gupta, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India in Vietnam, representatives of the Danang Department of Tourism and the city’s Tourism Association and 200 tour operators, hotels and air carriers.
