HCMC – Five airports in the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam, namely Danang, Phu Bai, Pleiku, Phu Cat and Chu Lai, are temporarily closed for two days, September 27 and 28, due to the approaching Super Typhoon Noru.
According to the Middle Airports Authority, the Chu Lai Airport in Quang Nam suspends operations from 7 a.m. today, September 27, to 6:59 a.m. tomorrow.
The airports of Danang, Phu Bai in Thua Thien-Hue, Phu Cat in Binh Dinh, and Pleiku in Gia Lai have stopped receiving flights from 12 p.m. today to 11:59 a.m. tomorrow.
Besides, flights to and from other airports in the two regions, such as Vinh in Nghe An, Dong Hoi in Quang Binh, Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen, Lien Khuong in Lam Dong and Buon Ma Thuot in Daklak have been rescheduled due to the approaching typhoon, which is expected to make landfall in the central region tonight.
Bad weather could also cause delays and cancellations of many other flights. According to national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, it has cancelled 106 flights given the closure of the five airports.
Bamboo Airways, another local carrier, has also canceled 24 flights and rescheduled 25 others. Eight flights operated by Vietravel Airlines have also been canceled and many others impacted.
Passengers of affected flights would receive support from the carriers.
Those who plan to travel during this time have been advised to stay updated on the weather conditions and the latest news from airlines.
In related news, the SE5 and SE6 trains, which operate on the north-south rail route, have been suspended to avoid the impact of the typhoon, according to the Hanoi Railway Transport JSC.
Similarly, boat services between Sa Ky Port and Ly Son Island in Quang Ngai have been halted, Nguyen Huu Doan, director of the Sa Ky Port Management Board, confirmed yesterday.
