HCMC – The central city of Danang has told its residents to stay at home after 8 p.m. today, September 27, as Super Typhoon Noru is forecast to make landfall in central Vietnam tonight.
Le Trung Chinh, chairman of the municipal government, said at a morning meeting on responses to Noru, the fourth storm to hit the country this year, that people’s safety must be put first.
Districts across the city were told to complete the preparations before 2 p.m. today, he added.
The city’s Department of Health was asked to prepare plans and vehicles for emergencies and provide people with the hotline of each medical station.
The competent forces were asked to check the fire safety at fishing ports and ferry terminals while taking all fishermen to the shore before the typhoon strikes.
According to the city’s data, around 11,000 international and 7,000 domestic visitors remain in Danang. The city’s Department of Tourism was told to ask all lodging facilities to inform their customers of the storm’s landfall and take measures to ensure their safety.
This morning, many fishing boats from various provinces with over 600 fishermen on board continued to arrive at the Tho Quang fishing wharf in Son Tra District to take shelter. Chinh asked the district authorities to provide sufficient necessities and shelter for these fishermen.
Earlier, the city ordered traditional markets be shut down and allowed employees to stay away from work starting 12 p.m. today.
In neighboring Quang Nam Province, local people were also banned from venturing out of their homes after 6 p.m. today until further notice.
