HCMC – Close to 800 employees in the healthcare and education sectors in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho quit their jobs from the start of 2020 to June 2022, said a city official at a press briefing held yesterday, October 6.
According to Le Hung Yen, deputy director of the municipal Department of Home Affairs, the city recorded 952 State employees resigning between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2022. Among them, 436 worked in the education sector and 358 were healthcare workers.
They cited multiple reasons for their resignation, but the most common was low salaries and allowances and a big income gap between public and private sectors, the official said, the local media reported.
The city’s departments of Education-Training and Health are taking measures to cope with the issue.
As for the shortage of employees facing the city’s Health Department, the relevant agencies were asked to review and work out specific plans, as well as team up with the Home Affairs Department to propose solutions to the municipal government.
The Home Affairs Department is also working on a scheme to attract scientists and talent to the city. If the authorities approve the scheme, it is expected to woo more employees to the city thanks to considerably high incentives, Yen said.
