HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has urged the relevant agencies to expedite administrative paperwork so as to start work on the Dai Ngai Bridge project on National Highway 60 in the Mekong Delta in the first quarter of 2023.
Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam urged the project’s investor to map out a detailed disbursement plan and other necessary procedures for the project to be approved by the end of 2022.
The Dai Ngai Bridge project will connect two Mekong Delta provinces of Tra Vinh and Soc Trang.
In late 2019, the project obtained approval in principle by the prime minister with the first phase’s investment of roughly VND8,000 billion, funded by official development assistance.
In July this year, the Government decided to use the national budget as the project’s funding source instead.
The 15.1-kilometer project includes seven bridges and five intersections, with the Dai Ngai Bridge being the main component. The construction will take approximately 48 months.
In phase 1, the Dai Ngai Bridge will have four lanes with a total width of 17.5 meters. The maximum speed is 80 kilometers per hour.
The project will improve the road traffic infrastructure along National Highway 60, cutting the travel distance from the region to HCMC by some 80 kilometers compared to the current route on National Highway 1, which passes through the provinces of Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu.
