HCMC – Nguyen Van Nen, secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, met Governor of South Australia Frances Adamson in HCMC during her visit to Vietnam on November 8.

Speaking at the event, Nen thanked the Australian Government and people for their timely support of 26 million doses of Covid vaccines and other medical equipment during the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Talking about South Australia, the secretary said that the state was not only famous for education, medical care and manufacturing but also for innovation and renewable power.

With the vision toward 2030 to turn HCMC into a smart city focusing on developing services and industry, Nen said the city would like to cooperate with the state to tap the city’s potential and enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Adamson emphasized that the support during the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the strong ties between Vietnam and Australia and assured enhancing cooperation in science-technology and renewable power.

As for education, the governor said that nearly 2,000 Vietnamese students were studying in South Australia.

HCMC is now home to nearly 900 Australian-invested projects with total capital of over US$900 million, ranking Australia 19th among 116 countries and territories investing in the city.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Australia reached US$1.4 billion in 2021.

Next year, the two countries will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
