HCMC – Roughly half of the registration facilities in HCMC have stopped working recently, causing long queues of vehicles to rush to complete their periodic safety inspection and registration.
As of December 27, nine out of 19 vehicle registration centers in HCMC had temporarily ceased operations, with six of them suspended due to wrongdoings, the local media reported.
Despite functioning at full capacity, the others have been unable to handle a surge in inspection demands, resulting in daylong waits at the operational facilities in HCMC and the neighboring provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai.
According to Bui Hoa An, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Transport, some 32,000 vehicles were registered between December 1 and 23.
Local drivers and transportation service associations have urged the authorities to offer solutions to facilitate the flow of passenger and goods traffic for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.
In response, the HCMC Department of Transport launched a range of initiatives, namely increasing work hours to include the weekend and deploying experienced personnel to assist operations at local centers.
The agency asked drivers needing vehicle registration to contact the local authorities and visit the nearest facilities in any province.
