HCMC – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that an African swine fever (ASF) vaccination campaign would be launched across Vietnam in February this year.
The ministry made the announcement at a meeting held yesterday, January 31, which featured discussions to supervise the quality and use of 600,000 doses of the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine developed by AVAC Vietnam JSC.
The ministry asked the vaccine developer to continue efforts to follow up and evaluate the vaccine-induced immunity after injection, monitor the developments of the ASF virus and supplement some relevant criteria to evaluate the efficacy of the vaccine.
The AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine was approved for circulation in July last year. It was put into use under supervision at pig farms.
As of December 2022, the company had vaccinated more than 1,800 pigs, with the efficacy rate reaching 94.4%. Besides, two weeks after the vaccination, the immunity level recorded among these pigs was 40% and the figure amounted to 90% 28 days after injection.
By January this year, four batches of the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine underwent testing and met the technical requirements.
Last year, Vietnam became the first country to successfully develop and produce two vaccines to fight against ASF, comprising the NAVET-ASFVAC developed by Navetco National Veterinary JSC and the AVAC ASF LIVE by AVAC Vietnam.
