HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 11,434 new Covid-19 cases, including 11,429 domestic infections in 39 cities and provinces and five imported cases this evening, September 1, sending the country’s Covid-19 tally to 473,530.
HCMC reported the biggest number of new infections with nearly 5,370, followed by Binh Duong with 3,440, and other southern provinces such as Dong Nai with 759, Long An with 594 and Tien Giang with 194.
Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang and Quang Binh detected 112, 106 and 103 new cases, respectively, while other cities and provinces reported less than 100 new infections each.
The country has recorded 469,312 domestically transmitted Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic since April 27.
This afternoon, the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control confirmed 797 more Covid-19 deaths, taking the total to 11,868. The new deaths included 658 in HCMC, 78 in Binh Duong, 14 in Long An, 12 in Dong Nai and 10 in Dong Thap. Thirteen other provinces reported less than 10 new fatalities each.
Up to now, more than 248,720 Covid-19 patients in the country have fully recovered, including 9,862 people discharged from the hospital today. Meanwhile, there are currently over 6,300 critically ill Covid-19 patients.
In related news, Hanoi has put into operation a Covid-19 treatment hospital for severely and critically ill patients in the city and northern localities after one month of construction.
The hospital has 500 beds and covers an area of 3.5 hectares in Yen So Ward, Hoang Mai District. As the second facility of the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, it will serve as a national Covid-19 intensive care unit.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony on August 31, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said amid the complicated development of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health has decided to set up 12 intensive care centers nationwide, including this one in Hanoi.
“The establishment of these centers will help improve Covid-19 treatment capacity, especially for critically ill patients, thus reducing the number of deaths,” he said.
In addition, the capital city has decided to set up five facilities to treat asymptomatic Covid-19 cases and those having mild symptoms.
These facilities are expected to ease the overload facing hospitals in the city, so that the hospitals can focus their resources on treating Covid-19 patients with severe symptoms and underlying health conditions.
Hanoi has reported 3,564 Covid-19 cases in the latest outbreak.
The city will move some 1,200 residents from its biggest Covid-19 cluster detected in alleys No. 328 and 330, Nguyen Trai Road, Thanh Xuan Trung Ward, Thanh Xuan District to an isolated facility in the outskirts.
Among over 1,300 residents living in this area, nearly 400 have been infected with Covid-19 since August 23.
The two alleys are home to old buildings with high population density, which is identified as the cause of cross infection.
Besides the evacuation, Thanh Xuan Trung Ward has activated more forces for its Covid-19 checkpoints and set up more mobile medical stations for Covid-19 patients to curb the spread of the pandemic.
