HCMC – Vietnam Airlines successfully piloted the application of the digital health passport IATA Travel Pass for its Flight VN55 departing from Hanoi to London today, September 2, the first flight from Vietnam to Europe to pilot the digital health passport, with 18 passengers on board.
The IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that integrates digital solutions such as contactless travel, biometric data and electronic health certificates about Covid testing results and vaccination. It is a secure means, ensuring consistent information among governments, testing labs, carriers and passengers. Thus, it makes travel among countries safer and easier amid the pandemic.
The app is easy and simple to use. After downloading the app, passengers need to create their digital profile, then add details to get an update on the quarantine requirements of the destination and a list of testing facilities approved by the Ministry of Health and verified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). If passengers meet the health requirements for the trip, they will receive the “OK to travel” notification and have to share it with the airline before starting the trip.
Earlier, the national flag carrier had piloted the IATA Travel Pass on its Flight VN310 between Hanoi and Tokyo in Japan on August 12.
In the upcoming period, the carrier is expected to pilot the electronic health passport on flights from Hanoi to South Korea’s Seoul on September 12 and to London on September 21.
The successful trial launch will be the basis for the Vietnamese Government to consider officially recognizing the application of the e-health passport, thus expediting the resumption of international flights in the near future.
