HCMC – HCMC recorded over 82,500 workers leaving their jobs and submitting unemployment insurance claims in the first six months of this year, an increase of over 5,000 people over the same period last year.
The challenging economic conditions have forced many businesses to reduce working hours and lay off employees, resulting in a higher number of job losses. Sectors such as textile and garment, wood processing, and electronics manufacturing have been particularly affected.
According to a report by the General Statistics Office, the unemployment rate in HCMC increased to 3.71% in the second quarter, while the rate in Hanoi fell to 1.23%.
There were 217,800 people leaving their jobs across the country in the second quarter. Particularly, HCMC ranked second among the localities with the highest number of job losses in the second quarter, with 30,400 individuals leaving their positions.
To address the situation, the HCMC Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs has called for increased efforts from the HCMC Center for Employment Service and other centers to gather information on labor recruitment and provide support and opportunities for job seekers.
In the second half of the year, there is expected to be a high demand for labor in the commercial and service sectors, including commerce, logistics and warehousing, information technology, and communications.
These sectors alone need around 90,000 workers, representing 64.57% of the total job demand.
