State President witnesses signing of int’l powerboat racing deal

HCMC – Vietnam’s President Vo Van Thuong witnessed a significant moment in sports history as the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on international powerboat racing competitions took place in Rome, Italy, on July 26 (local time).

Under the MOU, the prestigious international powerboat racing competitions, the 2024 Grand Prix Binh Dinh, will be held in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province in late March 2024.

The event marks a groundbreaking collaboration between Binh Dinh authorities and H20 Racing Company.

The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), a global authority on powerboat racing, will host the world-class competition, featuring two thrilling categories: the UIM F1H20 powerboat race and the UIM-ABP Aquabike race. These competitions will mark the first-ever international powerboat racing events held in Vietnam.

The 2024 Grand Prix Binh Dinh is set to attract top-tier competitors from 30 different countries, including some of the world’s leading powerboat racers. Enthusiasts of water sports from around the world will have the opportunity to witness the excitement of these spectacular races.

The competition will serve as a remarkable platform for Binh Dinh Province to showcase itself as an attractive destination for extreme sports enthusiasts. The event is expected to garner attention from international media, sports enthusiasts, and tourists alike, further enhancing the province’s profile as a thrilling and adventure-filled locale.

The UIM F1H20 powerboat racing, known for its incredible speed and technical maneuvers, sees boats racing through turns at an astonishing speed of 145 km per hour and reaching a maximum speed of 226 km per hour on straight stretches.

In addition to the sporting spectacle, the organizing units have entered into copyright cooperation to promote the race and present Vietnam’s captivating image to the world, showcasing the nation’s famous beaches and natural beauty.

Furthermore, the Grand Prix will become an annual highlight for five consecutive years in Binh Dinh Province, solidifying Vietnam’s position on the global sporting map, said Pham Anh Tuan, chairman of Binh Dinh Province.
