HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has submitted a proposal to the prime minister for an investment of VND9.3 trillion to upgrade three crucial national highways—53, 62, and 91B—in the Mekong Delta.
The project aims to improve the road network and connectivity among provinces, including Long An, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu.
The total cost of this project is estimated at VND9.3 trillion, equivalent to US$390 million, with over VND6.3 trillion, or US$263 million, anticipated to be secured through financing from the World Bank.
The proposed upgrades include a 41-kilometer section of National Highway 53, traversing Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces, with an estimated investment of VND2.6 trillion.
About 69 kilometers of National Highway 62 in Long An Province will be upgraded, with an allocated budget of VND3.2 trillion.
The project encompasses the upgrade of around 141 kilometers of National Highway 91B, spanning Can Tho City, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu. VND3.4 trillion will be required for the project.
Upon completion, these enhanced roads will accommodate a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, effectively promoting socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region.
