HCMC – The Culture and Sports Department of Thua Thien – Hue Province is organizing an online exhibition to honor ao dai, the Vietnamese traditional long dress.

The exhibition titled “Hue – The Ao Dai Capital of Vietnam” enables viewers to learn about the role of ao dai in Vietnamese culture and history, especially during traditional festivals and special occasions, as well as in daily life.

The exhibition features 15 clips about ao dai, with the first clip “Hue – The Cradle of Vietnamese Traditional Dress” launched on September 15.

The clip features images of the former leaders of the country in ao dai, including King Ham Nghi and King Thanh Thai – the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, late President Ho Chi Minh, and President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Fourteen other clips with specific topics such as “Traditional Dress in the Flow of Culture and History, “Royal Costumes”, “From Traditional Dress to National Dress”, and “The Long Dress Making Craft in Hue” will be presented from now until the end of this year.

“Our purpose is to spread love for the traditional dress among every Vietnamese person and encourage people, men and women, to wear it as much as possible,” said Phan Thanh Hai, director of the Thua Thien – Hue Culture and Sports Department.

He expected that the exhibition would help viewers understand more about the formation and development of ao dai and raise their awareness about the importance of preserving cultural and traditional values.
