HCMC – Vietnam will receive 54 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines in October, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen told an anti-virus meeting with 12 southwestern provinces on September 30.

The Ministry of Health will prioritize the allocation of these doses to the southern provinces being hit by the pandemic.

Together with the doses, Vietnam will receive a total of 110 million Covid vaccine doses by the end of October, said Tuyen.

The deputy minister said that the 12 provinces and cities, including Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Dong Thap, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Vinh Long have managed to control the pandemic, but the risk of community transmission remains high.

Until date, over 3.7 million doses of the Covid vaccine have been allocated to the 12 localities.

The deputy minister also ordered the localities to mobilize medical workers for the vaccination campaign and prioritize vaccinating workers. In addition, the localities’ departments of Health were asked to prepare bags of medication for Covid patients, set up pop-up healthcare stations and raise the capacity of Covid treatment to reduce death rates.

As of September 30, over 42.1 million doses had been administered nationwide, with some 9.5 million people receiving two shots.

Vietnam targets to vaccinate some 70%-80% of its population aged 18 and older in late 2021, the local media reported.
