HCMC – The railway sector has launched weekly rail cargo transport service from Song Than Station in Binh Duong Province to China, an upgrade from the previous monthly service.

The new weekly service, which will help boost trade between Vietnam and China, started from Song Than station to China on February 21, with 21 cars carrying 200 tons of agricultural products. The train is slated to arrive in Zhengzhou and Henan, China, within nine to 10 days.

The weekly rail cargo transport service may be adjusted depending on demand.

Hoang Gia Khanh, general director of VNR, said that international railway service plays a crucial role in reducing freight transport time, benefiting from convenient customs clearance procedures, and mitigating cargo backlogs at border gates.

As part of future plans, the Song Than Station, the largest railway station in southern Vietnam, is set to undergo renovations between 2025 and 2030. These renovations aim to increase its handling capacity to 3.5 million tons of cargo annually.
