HCMC – Can Gio, the coastal district of HCMC, has received approval to convert approximately 190.71 hectares of agricultural land into non-agricultural use this year, as outlined in the recently issued Can Gio land usage plan by HCMC authorities.
Among the seven localities slated for land conversion, Can Thanh Town leads with 43.38 hectares, followed by An Thoi Dong with 34.80 hectares, Ly Nhon with 33.42 hectares, Tam Thon Hiep with 31.31 hectares, Binh Khanh with 27.33 hectares, Long Hoa with 20.25 hectares, and Thanh An island with 0.22 hectare.
This year’s land conversion targets three types of agricultural land: land for growing perennial trees accounting for 44% (83.55 hectares), land for growing annual crops and fishery farming making up 21%, and land for salt making comprising 2.1 hectares.
Situated 50 kilometers from HCMC, Can Gio has a total area of 71,300 hectares with over 70,000 residents. It features 46,875 hectares of agricultural land, 22,540 hectares of non-agricultural land, and 1,029 unused land areas.
HCMC authorities aim to bolster Can Gio’s tourism development, including the construction of a regional and international tourism urban area. This initiative is expected to contribute to the city’s economic growth while preserving its culture and landscape.
