HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed rescheduling the completion of the Dai Ngai Bridge project, which connects Tra Vinh and Soc Trang provinces, to 2027, instead of the original deadline range of 2022 to 2026.
The project has two primary components: Dai Ngai 1 and Dai Ngai 2 bridges. Construction is currently underway for half of the project’s bidding packages, including Package No. 11-XL, which involves the construction of Dai Ngai 2 Bridge and supporting facilities.
The Ministry of Transport describes Dai Ngai 1 Bridge as a special construction project due to its proximity to the sea and the complex geological conditions of the area. These factors necessitate extensive surveys and precise engineering designs.
Under favorable conditions, the construction of Dai Ngai 1 alone would need at least 42 months, consistent with the timelines for similar cable-stayed bridges previously constructed in Vietnam.
Given these considerations, the Ministry of Transport has underscored the need to push back the completion of Dai Ngai 1 to the end of 2027. This adjustment is deemed necessary to ensure the quality and safety of the construction, although it will not affect the total investment cost or alter other aspects of the project as outlined in the approved investment policy.
Once completed, the Dai Ngai Bridge project will span across the Hau River, significantly easing traffic congestion on National Highway 1 and enhancing transportation links among the coastal provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
