HCMC – Son La Province on June 11 broke ground on the 80MW Risen Phu Yen Wind Power Plant, a nearly VND3 trillion project expected to generate more than 230 million kWh of electricity annually when completed.

The project is being developed by Northern Wind Energy JSC in Phu Yen and Muong Coi communes in Son La Province. It will operate for 50 years and occupy around 46.4 hectares of land.

Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2028, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

According to local authorities, the wind farm will supply clean electricity to the national grid while supporting the use of renewable energy resources and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project is also expected to create jobs, improve transport and power infrastructure, and increase local budget revenues.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Nguyen Dinh Viet, chairman of the Son La People’s Committee, urged the investor to complete outstanding procedures, including wind measurement, technical design, and feasibility studies. He also called for adequate equity funding in line with commitments and close coordination with local authorities on compensation and site clearance.

Viet asked provincial agencies and local governments to continue to guide the investor through legal procedures, closely monitor implementation, and promptly report any obstacles that arise during the project’s execution.

Nguyen Van Hiep, chairman and general director of Northern Wind Energy JSC, said the company would mobilize resources and coordinate with authorities and relevant parties to ensure the project is completed on schedule and meets requirements for quality, safety, and efficiency.

He also expressed hope for continued support from provincial leaders, government agencies, local authorities, and residents as the company completes the remaining procedures and advances the project.

On the occasion, Northern Wind Energy JSC donated VND100 million each to the Phu Yen and Muong Coi communes to support programs to replace temporary and dilapidated homes.
