NA to relieve public security minister to prep for Presidential election

HCMC – The National Assembly (NA) has started a process to relieve General To Lam from the post of Minister of Public Security as he has been picked by the Party Central Committee (PCC) as a Presidential nominee.

NA Secretary General Bui Van Cuong this afternoon, May 21, presented a proposal to amend the agenda of the NA’s seventh sitting by adding a procedure for relieving To Lam from his role as Minister of Public Security.

This process happens at the same time as the process to elect State President during the sessions on the afternoon of May 21 and on the morning of May 22.

Data showed 96.1% of 469 NA deputies present at the ongoing sitting voted for the adjustment of the NA agenda.

At the ninth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee, held from May 16 to 18, the Minister of Public Security was chosen by the PCC as a candidate for State Presidency for the 2021-2026 term.

General To Lam was born in 1957 in Hung Yen Province. He has been serving as a member of the Politburo of the 12th and 13th tenures, a member of the Party Central Committee of the 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures, and a deputy to the National Assembly in the 14th and 15th terms.
