HCMC – Sea sand will be used for the roadbed of the Hau Giang-Ca Mau Expressway, stretching 45 kilometers across three Mekong Delta provinces.
As of July 11, the first batch of 600 cubic meters of sea sand was transported from Soc Trang Province to the construction site of the expressway project. This project requires one million cubic meters of sand, but only 300,000 cubic meters is available. The addition of sea sand will accelerate construction work, preventing delays previously caused by a lack of sand.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the sea sand will be used for the main route stretching 45 kilometers across Hong Dan District in Bac Lieu Province, Vinh Thuan District in Kien Giang Province, and Thoi Binh District in Ca Mau Province. This material will also be used for constructing 10 kilometers in some localities of Ca Mau.
To prepare for the expressway construction, Soc Trang Province began exploiting a 100-hectare sand mine with around 100,000 cubic meters extracted daily.
A survey showed that the coastal area of Soc Trang Province has an estimated 680 million cubic meters of sand, including 145 million cubic meters that could be extracted for infrastructure and expressway projects.
The Hau Giang-Ca Mau component of the Eastern North-South Expressway has a total length of 73 kilometers, with a 22-kilometer section traversing Ca Mau Province.
