HCMC – In response to the surge in travel demand during the peak summer season, three major airlines—Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, and Pacific Airlines—are expanding their flight schedules.
Pacific Airlines has announced the addition of an Airbus A321 aircraft, rented from Vietnam Airlines, for the summer season. This is the second of three aircraft Pacific Airlines has secured from Vietnam Airlines for the period.
The airline plans to operate 1,000 flights, offering 180,000 seats during the summer peak. Starting from late June, Pacific Airlines has increased flight frequencies to six or eight daily flights on routes from HCMC to Hanoi, Danang, and Chu Lai.
On July 8, 2024, Vietnam Airlines introduced a new Airbus A320neo to its fleet, marking the first addition of the year. This aircraft will be used on routes including Hanoi-Dalat, Hanoi-Phu Quoc, HCMC-Thanh Hoa, and HCMC-Chu Lai. The new Airbus A320neo is expected to add 40,000 seats for the summer holiday and an additional 30,000 seats for the remainder of the year.
Bamboo Airways, meanwhile, has leased a charter aircraft from Royal Air Philippines in early July 2024, making it the third aircraft the airline has leased this year. Bamboo Airways plans to lease one more aircraft to expand services on domestic routes including HCMC-Da Lat, HCMC-Thanh Hoa, and HCMC-Phu Quoc.
Currently, the combined fleet of these three major airlines stands at 160 aircraft, which is 60 to 70 fewer than the pre-pandemic levels.
