HCMC – The North-South Expressway may receive an additional VND6.3 trillion for its second phase from 2021 to 2025, said the Ministry of Transport (MoT) during a capital allocation meeting for infrastructure projects on July 22.
The MoT has been allocated VND62.6 trillion from the central State budget for infrastructure projects. Of this, around VND45 trillion is designated for key projects.
Including the supplementary allocation, the total capital plan for the MoT in 2024 rises to VND71.28 trillion.
As of July 15, the MoT has disbursed around VND27.5 trillion, achieving 44% of the planned budget. Key infrastructure projects have seen disbursements of over VND22 trillion, meeting 49% of the year’s target.
The first phase of the North-South Expressway has seen nearly VND2.7 trillion disbursed, representing 40% of its planned budget. The second phase has disbursed over VND16.7 trillion, or 55% of its planned budget.
To ensure the 2024 investment disbursement proceeds on schedule, the MoT urged project investors and project management boards to expedite acceptance, payment, and recovery processes.
For the second phase, payments for the finished workloads have reached nearly VND31.3 trillion out of VND42.7 trillion, achieving 73% of the total. Completing procedural requirements could unlock an additional VND11 trillion for the project.
Despite significant disbursements, much of the current focus is on structures such as bridges and tunnels, with substantial roadbed construction still pending.
With the rainy season approaching, project managers have been instructed to accelerate roadbed construction to maintain the overall project timeline.
