HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to weigh increasing the purchase rate of surplus rooftop solar power to 20% of installed capacity.

Deputy PM Ha presided over a meeting on July 26 to hear reports and give feedback on the draft of a government decree on mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power.

According to him, agencies in charge of drafting the decree must study the possibility of increasing the proportion of purchased electricity to be connected to the national grid to 20% of installed capacity in northern Vietnam, and 10% for the central and southern regions.

There must be regulations ensuring the safety of the system when mobilizing self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power, he said, adding that local electricity companies should be assigned to supervise and implement safety measures.

Incentive policies should be devised to encourage organizations and individuals to invest in self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power, he added.
