VN30 stocks behind VN-Index surge

HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange stayed afloat today, July 16, buoyed by many stocks in the VN30 basket due to strong demand.

At the close, the main index soared by 6.9 points, or 0.8%, against the session earlier, at 876.83. There were 243.5 million shares worth VND4.3 trillion changing hands, down 5.7% in volume and 3.8% in value. Block deals contributed VND559 billion to the total value, while the transaction value of the VN30 basket accounted for VND2.2 trillion of the total, or more than half.

In the VN30 basket, as many as 23 stocks gained ground, with low-cost carrier VJC jumping by 4%. Sugar producer SBT, consumer goods stock MSN, property firm VIC and dairy firm VNM were in positive territory.

Steelmaker HPG was the most actively traded stock on the southern market, with some 18 million shares transacted.

Among the speculative stocks, HQC, TSC, OGC and MHC closed the day up by 1%-5%. Realty trading firm HQC came second for liquidity on the southern exchange with 13.2 million shares changing hands. Property group DBC shot up to the ceiling price, ending its three-day falling streak.

On the northern bourse, the HNX-Index lost 0.27% against the previous session at 115.59 points, extending its losing streak. Many bluechips were among drags for the index.

Construction firm VCG, industrial firm VCS and industrial investment company DDG lost ground while lender ACB stood at the reference price.

Oil and gas firm PVS ended the day up 1.6% and took the lead by liquidity on the northern market with over 6.3 million shares transacted.
