HCMC – The Government has approved a plan to turn Thua Thien-Hue Province into a centrally-governed city which is called Hue.

The Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee Office announced on September 10 that the central Government had held a conference to assess this plan.

Deputy PM Binh highlighted the Politburo’s direction outlined in Resolution No. 54, which supports the conversion of Thua Thien-Hue into a centrally-run city. The appraisal council members unanimously agreed that this move aligns with the Party’s policies and the Government’s strategic planning.

The name “Hue City,” reflecting the region’s historical and cultural heritage, has garnered widespread support from local voters. The new city will be established based on the existing administrative boundaries of Thua Thien-Hue Province, in line with the planned administrative unit arrangements.

Following its designation, the forthcoming Hue City will consist of nine administrative districts (including two urban districts, three towns, and four rural districts) and 133 administrative units at the commune level (comprising 78 communes, 48 wards, and 7 townlets), a decrease of eight administrative units at the commune level.
