HCMC — The Lao Cai International Border Gate between Vietnam and China reopened to traffic on September 11 at 11:00 a.m. local time after a temporary closure due to severe flooding being triggered by heavy rain.

The decision to resume operations followed consultations with Chinese authorities at the Hekou border gate in Yunnan Province and an assessment of improved weather conditions.

Both the Lao Cai International Border Gate in Lao Cai City and the the Kim Thanh II International Border Gate in Bao Thang District have been reopened to pedestrians and vehicles.

The border was closed on September 9 due to the impact of typhoon Yagi, which brought torrential rains and river overflows in the region.

The Lao Cai People’s Committee, in collaboration with Chinese authorities, decided to suspend border crossings temporarily to ensure traveler safety.
