HCMC – HCMC’s current road infrastructure would need to be expanded by 2.5 times to handle 10 million vehicles registered in the city, said Bui Hoa An, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Transport.

An made the statement during a press conference on the city’s socioeconomic performance on September 19. Officials discussed the transportation challenges caused by the rapid increase in vehicles, including those from neighboring provinces.

With roads already overburdened, the city frequently experiences traffic congestion during peak hours.

To address these issues, HCMC is accelerating the construction of major infrastructure projects, upgrading traffic surveillance systems, and optimizing traffic signal operations.

The city is also exploring the use of artificial intelligence and big data to analyze traffic patterns and implement real-time adjustments.

HCMC is considering introducing smaller buses to better navigate the city’s narrow roads and integrate with the upcoming Metro Line No. 1, which will run from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu Duc City.
