HCMC – Airfares for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday are on the rise, with Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways offering tickets at higher prices as from mid-September.

Vietnam Airlines has released 1.5 million tickets, and Vietjet Air has made 2.6 million seats available for booking. Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines have yet to officially announced their seat availability though tickets are available on various platforms.

According to industry reports, round-trip airfares between HCMC and Hanoi for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday have increased by 8% over last year, with ticket prices ranging from VND6.6 million to VND7.4 million.

Reports from Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, which dominated over 76% of the domestic aviation market in 2023, attributed the fare hikes to several factors such as higher aircraft maintenance costs, leasing expenses, and fuel prices. Costs have escalated due to global increases in leasing and purchasing rates, along with a 4.4% year-on-year increase in the average exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Vietnamese dong currency during the first half of 2024.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has taken measures to stabilize domestic airfares amidst fluctuating supply and demand. In preparation for the 2025 peak holiday season, airlines are told to balance transport resources and coordinate with ground services to ensure adequate supply. The authority also encouraged early ticket sales to help passengers plan ahead, and is expediting the leasing and acquisition of new aircraft while bringing repaired planes back into service.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs has proposed a nine-day holiday for the 2025 Lunar New Year.
