HCMC – Vietnam and Mongolia have issued a joint statement announcing the establishment of a comprehensive partnership between the two countries during Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s state visit to Mongolia from September 30 to October 1.
The visit took place at the invitation of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, marking a historic milestone in bilateral relations, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
During their talks on September 30, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growth of the traditional friendship between the two countries, and discussed solutions to implement high-level cooperation agreements, with a particular focus on defense and security.
Khurelsukh commended Vietnam’s flexible and balanced foreign policy, expressing admiration for the country’s achievements in socioeconomic development. He affirmed that Mongolia attaches importance to relations with Vietnam and considers Vietnam one of its key partners in the region.
Khurelsukh expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support of US$500,000 to aid Mongolia in recovering from recent natural disasters. He announced that the Vietnam-Mongolia Intergovernmental Committee would meet in Hanoi in November to discuss measures for implementing the joint statement.
Lam said he hoped that Mongolia would successfully implement its “New Recovery Policy” and long-term “Vision 2050” development goals, which would bolster the Mongolian international standing.
The joint statement establishes a comprehensive framework for enhancing the Vietnam-Mongolia partnership. It aims to guide deep, substantive, and effective collaboration across all sectors.
The two leaders pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation, prioritizing defense and security. They outlined specific measures to foster ties in diplomacy, justice, and transnational crime control.
The two nations will collaborate to boost trade, investment, and infrastructure development. Relevant agencies will support local businesses and facilitate exchanges of goods and services between the two countries.
Hanoi and Ulaanbaatar will enhance exchanges in areas such as education and tourism.
Both countries will collaborate closely on regional and global issues, including maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea.
After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of seven cooperation documents between ministries, agencies, and localities of Vietnam and Mongolia.
