HCMC – Tran Thanh Man, chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA), held talks with his Lao counterpart Saysomphone Phomvihane in Vientiane on October 17 to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance collaborative efforts.
Man is in Laos to pay an official visit and attend the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly.
Phomvihane underscored the importance of the visit to foster friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He said the meeting was a significant opportunity to strengthen the already strong ties between Vietnam and Laos, notably with Laos assuming the chairmanship of ASEAN and AIPA in 2024.
The Lao leader conveyed condolences to the Vietnamese people for the recent devastation caused by typhoon Yagi and ensuing flooding and landslides.
Man expressed Vietnam’s steadfast commitment to the special relationship with Laos, which he described as a unique bond. He reiterated Vietnam’s support for Laos’ development and its role as ASEAN and AIPA chair.
The two leaders agreed to enhance exchanges, share experiences, and jointly monitor the implementation of Vietnam-Laos bilateral agreements. Discussions focused on solutions to promote investment cooperation projects, remove obstacles, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investment in Laos.
Following the talks, Man and Phomvihane witnessed the signing ceremony for memorandums of understanding on cooperation between the two countries’ NA foreign affairs committees and between the cities of Vietnam’s Hoi An and Laos’ Luang Prabang.
