HCMC – The Ministry of Transport said it would work with Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to finalize an investment plan for the upgrade of Con Dao Airport this month, reported the local media.
The ministry is set to submit a proposal to the prime minister, seeking approval to upgrade the airport’s runway and taxiway. Initially approved in October 2021 under Decision 1795/QD-BGTVT, the project would enhance the airport’s capacity to accommodate medium-range aircraft.
Public funding will be allocated for the runway and taxiway improvements, while local authorities have been tasked with developing a public-private partnership plan for managing and operating the airport.
Currently, Con Dao Airport can handle smaller aircraft only, such as ATR 72 and Embraer E190. The ministry stated that the planned infrastructure upgrades would allow larger aircraft and improve flight options, particularly on routes connecting Con Dao with HCMC and Can Tho City.
